Weddinganniversary

Same procedure as last year?
Same procedure as every year, James!
There are better things to give on wedding anniversaries than flowers and chocolate.
Every wedding anniversary has it's own meaning -
and it's a nice idea to give things that show you really care

and it's nice when sometimes friends or relatives remember those days too

So here is a list of the wedding anniversaries, their meaning and suggestions of what to give

1. year is Paper
how about engraved stationery?
use the first sheet for a long love letter!
not so romantic - let him read the newspaper first...

2. year is Cotton
how about underwear?
For the men I suggest to have a close look at her bras first. Find out her size before you try to show the shop assistant with your hands how much...
or buy a huge bath towel
believe me, tea towels or a cotton shoppingbag might ruin the romantic atmosphere

3. year is Leather
how about a new handbag, a briefcase, wallet or filofax?
or a new whip...

4. year is Silk
how about bed sheets or lingerie
or a new tie for him...

5. year is Wood
how about a bunch of flowers with some cooking spoons in it?
or a cooking spoon with one cute diamondring on it like it was a finger?
my husband would suggest 5 red roses - at least that's what I got last month...
or buy a rocking chair - I don't know anybody who wouldn't like a rocking chair!

6. year is Iron
hm, new handcuffs?
how about a new iron? but then hurry with some romantic words!

6 1/2 years we celebrate "tin-wedding" in Germany

7 year is Wool
how about a new jumper, warm underwear or cardigan for him?
how about a picnic blanket for her?

8. year is Bronze
no idea, really - we don't celebrate Bronze in Germany, but sheet-metal and then I suggest a bucket full of flowers

9. year is Pottery
make or buy some handmade stuff!
or book a weekend-pottery-course - at least they offer those weekends in Germany

10. year is Tin
ah, you miss something! we call this the rose-wedding, as the marriage is beautiful as a rose now, but beware of the thorns!
make a funny "all-out-of-tins-dinner!"
get a nice present tinned - they offer this service in some shops!

11. year is Steel
time for a new car?

12. year is Linen
how about a painting of one of the wedding photos?

12 1/2 years after the wedding is nickel-wedding in Germany

13. year is Lace
how about new shoes and lace?

14. year is Ivory
Please don't buy ivory - think about the poor elephants!

15. year is Crystal
how about a crystal-heart?

20. year is China
Book a trip to China!

25. year is Silver
After twenty five years, how about a silver frame with a long forgotten picture of the happy couple. Perhaps one of when they were still dating!
Debbie Mills

30. year is Pearl
The years of your marriage look like pearls of a chain now - so I'd suggest a chain (with more than 30 pearls)
If you fancy the idea of a hidden pearl in an oyster - make sure it won't be swallowed!

35. year is Coral
a trip to a coral reef!

37 1/2 years after the wedding we celebrate the aluminium-wedding in Germany

40. year is Ruby
A ruby ring?

50. year is Gold
gold, lots of it!!!

60. years is diamond -wedding in Germany
means I might be 84 before I get my first diamond-ring...

65. year is iron-wedding in Germany

67 1/5 years after the wedding we celebrate stone-wedding in Germany

70. year is the mercy-wedding in Germany

75. year is Diamonds
I'd suggest the crown-jewels from the Buckingham Palace - I bet they wouldn' t mind!

Well, that's the end of the official list - interesting to see the differences between the countries! I gave you the german anniversaries when I didn't know yours - or when I like the name of ours so much. By the way 75. wedding anniversary is "crown jewels" in Germany...
