Cinnamon Ornaments

Mix cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg add applesauce & glue. Work mixture with hands until smooth and well mixed. Divide into 4 portions roll out to 1/4 inch thickness cut with cookies cutters. Use straw to make hole for hanging (if needed). Put on wire rack to dry at room temp for several days. Turn twice daily so they don't curl. Use ribbon to hang if needed.

Cinnamon figurines

Pour cinnamon into bowl. Add applesauce by the spoonful, stirring until a stiff dough forms. Mix dough thoroughly by hand.

This recipe is for making little bear figurines, so you basiclaly roll the dough into balls for the body, head, etc and mush them together. The same recipe would probably work for other kinds of modelling or for rolling out and using cookie cutters.

Cornstarch Clay

Put salt and 2/3 cup water in pan and bring to a boil. Mix cornstarch with 2/3 cup water and mix well. Blend 2 mixtures together and knead into clay. Makes about 3 cups. This clay can be air dried and then painted. Store unused clay in airtight container in the fridge.

Edible Fun Dough

mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Add more powdered milk to make a more workable dough if needed. This dough is great for little ones who put everything into their mouths. Form the dough into shapes, eat for snack.

add food coloring to water, then mix all the ingredients in a sauce pan. Cook over medium heat stirring often until mixture forms a thick dough. Remove from heat and cool. Knead until smooth. Keep in airtight container in fridge.

Kool-Aid Play Dough

Mix flour, salt, cream of tartara and Kool-Aid in a medium pot Add water and oil. Stir over medium heat 3 to 5 minutes. When mixture forms a ball in pot, remove. Knead until smooth. Put in a plastic bag and refrigerate.

Play Dough

Mix all ingredients, adding food coloring last. Stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth. Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cooled. Will last for a long time.

Finger Paint I

In saucepan, mix cornstarch with 3/4 cup cold water to a smooth paste. Soak gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water. Set aside. Pour boiling water slowly over cornstarch mixture, stirring. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and clears. Remove. Stir in gelatin. Cool and divide into separate small screw top jars. Add color. Refrigerate to store. Paint is transparent, strong and durable with high gloss finish. May be used on dry or wet paper.

Finger Paint II

mix ingredients in saucepan. Boil until mixture thickens. Cool, pour into containers I usually double this recipe, omit the food coloring, and pour this into several jars, then add the food colors.

Gak (Homemade Silly Putty)

Put glue and coloring in plastic container. Add starch a little at a time, stirring constantly. Keep stirring until mixture holds together like putty. Test with your fingers, if too sticky, add more starch in small amounts until mass is smooth and rubbery. Have fun pulling, stretching, bouncing and taking transfers off of the Sunday comics, etc. Store in a plastic bag or airtight container.

Paper Mache'

Mix glue and water. Tear newspaper into one by 4-6" strips. Brush the glue on, then put a paper strip. Smooth strip with fingers. Continue on laying down 3-4 layers of strips. Let dry for 2-3 days.

Silly Putty

mix starch and glue together untill it feels like silly putty. Store in airtight container in the fridge.

Singing Cake

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks and stir. Add melted chocolate and stir. Add raisins. Add cinnamon, cloves, and flour, stir. Stir in nuts and jam. Now add the baking powder to the buttermilk and quickly stir into the cake mixture. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Quickly pour mix into greased and floured angel food cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees until cake stops singing, about 45 minutes. Make sure you time this so your guests are present during the baking. Once the cake is baked, the effect is over.
